The above Official New 7 Wonders of the World were elected by more than 100 million votes to represent global heritage throughout history. The listing is in random order, as announced at the Declaration Ceremony on 07.07.07.
7 Wonders were chosen because the original list of Ancient Wonders, drawn up more than 2,000 years ago, contained 7 and because 7 has been shown time and time again to be the number of things that the average person can remember.
The Official New 7 Wonders of the World campaign was the first global democratic exercise in mankind’s history. For the first time, we all, millions of people from all over the world, created “Global Memory”: first, we nominated the finalists (Alhambra was among them) and, from there, 7 things for everyone to remember, 7 symbols of unity that respect, honour and celebrate our planet’s cultural diversity.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry, you’re not too late to have your say!
Now it’s time to decide The Official New7Wonders of Nature. This campaign highlights and celebrates the beauty of our planet, thus fostering greater respect for the earth’s fragile natural equilibrium. The motto for this campaign is:
“If we want to save anything, we first need to truly appreciate it” Bernard Weber, Founder New7Wonders
Because we often only act when we are about to lose something precious that has grown dear to us.
